Classy meets punk rock

MEET JENNY HUMPHREY

On the last season of Gossip Girl, Jenny Humphrey did not have a distinct style in fashion – you would always see her dressed like the other girls and struggled to fit in upper east siders. For season 2, she transformed herself and became a fashionista! Rocking a new haircut, bolder eye makeup and a lot of new fabulous clothes!
Before I forget, I am really loving the new Jenny Humphrey! Ha! There’s a lot that goes in to the Jenny’s new look. As an up-and-coming fashion designer still under the age of 18, she wants to look sophisticated, fashion-forward, and maybe just a few years older than she is. But Jenny can’t afford a wardrobe filled 100% with designer clothes so she makes most of her clothing herself which is really money worthy. She's very creative and I like how she let the viewers know that you dont have to spend a lot of money to be in fashion. I also like how she found her style and proves that she doesn't have to dress up the same as all the other girls.

I know a lot of people (Well, I've read on blogs. Ha!) who doesn't agree to her new look, mainly because she looks like she turned from good girl to the bad girl image. As for me, I think its really cool how she alters her image from classy to having the punk rock look. Its fun to be rebellious sometimes, you know?

Meet Tavi Gevinson

Tavi Gevinson, 13 year old (Yes, she's only 13) With a 19 month old blog, she's just your average everyday grade school student (okay, maybe not so average) Often misinterpreted as a boy for her juvenile apple cut hair plus the fact that she's a glasses wearing imp. Her blog reached up to 50,000 viewers, not to mention she's featured on this months Preview Magazine! Philippines.

Her photo posts in her blog are mostly gifts, the Christian Siriano skirt, Rodarte Spiderweb leggings, and even dress samples from American Apparel. Bloggers like Tavi have been referred to as the "frontline of fashion". She has also become a regular guest at fashion shows. How luckyyy! Right?
It appears that Tavi Gevinson has become the new darling of the fashion industry. It was even rumored that several fashion editors created her blog. (Couldn't believe that a 13 year old wrote it, eh?)The elfin teenager, who has amassed an impressive following thousands of readers with her blog Style Rookie, has been busy rubbing noses with the fashion elite and gracing covers of magazines.

Editor Dasha Zhukova interviewed the rising star and also hired Tavi to write a blog for the Pop website. (She is sooo cool!) She has two sisters, Kate and Laura Mulleavy who used her (Tavi) as their muse just eight months after she started writing online, using her to help present their collection.

*She was invited to New York Fashion Week*

Outfit repeater?

New fashion trends are being advertised, featured, and sold in markets all at the same time, therefore, Celebrities can not avoid having the same outfit as the other. Next thing they know, their names are on the headlines-- "Who wore it better?"
->The only thing that seperates these stars is how they carry themselves.

These are my mid terms for fashion illustration 1, its basically 9 head fashion figure, depending on your poses and the fashion faces. We were given a card like board then get ideas from it for our clothing design, a silhouette could also do. As for me, flowers (1- leg strap or what ever its called)Circles(2-skirt) and the stripes(1-tank top),. Im not exactly good at it yet, but Im aiming for that! It was said that after the sem, we can already draw a fashion figure! :)

Spring Bling! Summer Stunner!

My groupmates (Alice, Marianna, Carla and Marielle) and I have to make a concept board on Spring/Summer 2010 Clubwear. We came up with our theme; "Sex and the City"
It was said that the movie will be showing on March, which falls perfectly for our Spring/Summer 2010 clubwear collection.

Why Sex and the City?
Sex represent the skin, which will be totally trendy on Spring/Summer 2010 that includes sheer, laces, macrames, one shouldered clothing will also be a must have by then!
City represents the clubwear itself. From the city that never sleeps, literally means partying all night long.

The colors that we will be using are Southern Folk; Vibrant, joyous party tints in slashes of color. Blazing red and deep violet blend with more neutral shades evoking dry, South American landscapes: ochres, clays, beiges, cactus greens.

Its Halloween!

Halloween.
The only night of the year where people take time to really dress up as something really crazy. The crazier, the better. I've never really spent halloween here in the philippines since we usually spent our vacations in Guam. So I thought this year would be exciting since I get to dress up with my friends, you know, bulky incorporate wigs, crazy make up or just whatever that's out of the world!

SAD TO SAY, Thanks to the major rain damage, Stuck at home. Movies and Popcorn, the usual.
and yess.. like most girls on halloween, they go for the slut look.. I told myself that I'd have a socially relevant, funny and/or scary costume this year, but I couldn't bring myself to actually go through with it.. oh well! i just like what i like ya knowwww. Oh and plus, im so over the slut look, i dressed up as a french maid on my birthday! Really went well. ;)

I saw this picture (below) on the net; and I really loved how she put the pieces together. Like most girls on halloween, they go for the "slutty" variety. But she stood out. She spent one whole saturday afternoon chopping, spray-painting and glue gunning her masterpiece together. It actually turned out better than okay! :)

The Coffee Shop Project

Me and Abby chose the taft to be our source for the trendspotting project.
Students around taft portrays different personalities that reflect their character in fashion. This is where you see teens that are divided into different cliques grouped together. There are some who looks like school is their runway, some has the "I-dont-care-what-you-think-about-me-i'm-gonna-dress-up-how-i-want" look, and some just plays safe.
In this project, we were asked to take photos of people that are divided into the fashion cycle(introduction, growth, maturity or decline) I just thought that taking photos at taft would be accessible for us. We actually did asked for their permission if we could take their photos, and they were happy to do so. You can tell by their faces. So by the end of the day, me and Abby gathered a lot of random photos of people for our project. All we have to do is compile them! And we're done! :)

Boots are back and higher than ever!

It's like love at first sight, YOU KNOW THAT YOU JUST HAVE TO HAVE IT <3
So how do you work them without looking for a $6 cent hooker?
Simply by following these rules:
1 Never pair leather boots with anything else leather.
2 Mix with styles, if the boots are heeled go for black tights to keep the focus on the feet and it will also elongate legs.
3 Buy a flat pair if your not confident with your walk, then decide on the heeled versions.
4 If your buying leather, don't go for glossed or patent leather. They will only make the shoes look less classy.

Find your inner style

The way a person dress asserts their identity, but with style, it creates a new story.

In her first book, Nina Garcia emphasises the importance of being one’s own personality rather than a fashion victim. Quotes from icons such as Sophia Loren, Coco Chanel and Katherine Hepburn are sprinkled throughout (even Albert Einstein gets a look in!). The Little Black Book of Style helps you to explore your own fashion voice—the piece of you that joyously revels in the glamorous experience of creating your best self. Nina Garcia also uses her influence to coax some well respected names such as Diane Von Furstenberg, Oscar De La Renta and Ralph Lauren to participate in question and answers on the last pages of the book. From cultivating good taste to guarding against definite fashion faux pas, Nina Garcia offers readers the ultimate guide to follow when it comes to dressing their best. Including tips on how and when to wear an outfit to what occasions are appropriate wear, advice on how to combine colors and textures, and inspiration on how to achieve your own signature look, you learn how to experiment, storyboard, archive, and play with fashion on your own sense.
In that way, style affords you opportunities to think about your appearance as a quality of your creative character.

The Little Black Book of Style by Nina Garcia is another style bible promising tips, advice and inspiration for women who have yet to find their sense of style. In her own words Nina Garcia aims to “awaken the fashion editor inside you and help you decide what image you want to convey to the world”

Who is your fashion icon?

For my first entry, I want to talk about my fashion icon :)
Fashion is an unbelievable thing. Well, in a good way ofcourse. The way a person dresses up can truly alter their mood. I mean, when you wear something that you really love, you feel really good about it and gains your confidence as you walk along the way. As I talk about fashion with other people, To which I like to respond, “Who is your fashion icon? Who do you see on TV and be like, I want her hair, her clothes, her confidence” It's always best to have someone to look up to. There is always someone, regardless if they are famous or someone you know personally in life. But most of the time they will say, "I'm... not so sure?"

For me. Well, I have several ofcourse. Its Lauren Conrad
Well, it’s funny cause i first saw her on Laguna Beach. From then, I have always admired her great taste in fashion and how she does not try too hard to look her best but she ends up to be. She always looked so classy and elegant in a casual trendy look. She can just throw into her sweats and still look fashionable. She has grown in fame and in visibility through out the show, and i continue to admire her fashion choices. I love how she doesnt have to be in a very expensive branded clothing line but still look amazing. She knows what looks good on her and she carries it well. It doesn’t matter if she’s on camera, out and about with her friends or heading into work, she’s got it. And I just love her for it… she’s definitely my fashion icon!

So, who's your fashion icon? :)
